About Lincoln Financial Field
Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles, will host World Cup matches in the heart of the Northeast corridor. With easy access from New York, DC, and beyond, Philly will draw massive crowds from across the region.
Opened in 2003 at a cost of $512 million, Lincoln Financial Field is the home of the Philadelphia Eagles. Known for its passionate fanbase, the stadium sits within the South Philadelphia Sports Complex alongside Citizens Bank Park and the Wells Fargo Center.
Getting to Lincoln Financial Field
✈️ Airport
Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is just 5 miles from the stadium — one of the shortest airport-to-venue distances.
🚇 Public Transit
SEPTA's Broad Street Line (subway) runs to the NRG station at the Sports Complex, providing direct service from Center City. This is one of the easiest transit connections in the tournament.
🚗 Driving & Parking
Located in the South Philadelphia Sports Complex off I-95 and Broad Street. Large surface lots surround the complex. The adjacent Xfinity Live! complex provides pre-game dining.
Fan Zones & Watch Parties
The Benjamin Franklin Parkway (from City Hall to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the 'Rocky Steps') is Philadelphia's natural event corridor and the expected FIFA Fan Fest location. It has hosted the NFL Draft fan experience and Made in America festival.
Fan zone locations are based on historical precedent. Official FIFA Fan Fest details will be confirmed closer to the tournament.
Weather & What to Pack
Philadelphia in late June through July is hot and humid — average highs around 87°F (31°C) with occasional heat waves pushing past 95°F. Lincoln Financial Field is fully open-air with no roof or significant shade cover. Afternoon matches will be hot; bring sunscreen, a hat, and a refillable water bottle. Evening matches are more pleasant but still warm. Thunderstorms are possible, especially in the late afternoon — they tend to be brief but intense.
Where to Eat & Drink in Philadelphia
Philadelphia takes its food seriously. The cheesesteak debate is eternal — Pat's King of Steaks and Geno's face each other at 9th and Passyunk, but locals swear by John's Roast Pork or Dalessandro's in Roxborough. Reading Terminal Market near City Hall is a must-visit food hall with Amish pretzels, DiNic's roast pork sandwiches (some say better than any cheesesteak), and Beiler's donuts. In South Philly near the stadium, Chickie's & Pete's is the go-to sports bar famous for crab fries. For a nicer meal, Zahav (Israeli) in Old City is James Beard Award-winning, and Vernick Food & Drink in Rittenhouse is outstanding.
Where to Stay in Philadelphia
Center City (downtown Philadelphia) is the best base — hotels around Rittenhouse Square and the Convention Center ($200-350/night) put you near restaurants, nightlife, and the Broad Street Line subway directly to the stadium. Old City and Society Hill have boutique options with historic charm. For budget stays, hotels near the airport ($120-180/night) are on the subway line, or look at Airbnbs in Fishtown and Northern Liberties (trendy neighborhoods with great bars). South Philadelphia near the stadium has limited hotels but some affordable Airbnb options. Philadelphia is very walkable downtown and the subway system, while small, connects the key areas.
Match Day Experience
The South Philadelphia Sports Complex is a well-oiled machine for major events. SEPTA's Broad Street Line subway runs express service to NRG station (soon to be rebranded) right at the stadium complex — it's a 15-minute ride from City Hall. The Xfinity Live! entertainment complex adjacent to the stadium is the main pre-match gathering spot with multiple bars and restaurants. Lincoln Financial Field has a reputation for one of the most passionate (and intimidating) fan cultures in American sports — Eagles fans will bring that energy to the World Cup. After the match, the subway runs extended service, and the Xfinity Live! area stays open late for post-match celebrations.
Local Tips — Philadelphia
Philly is a food city — get a proper cheesesteak (Pat's, Geno's, or Jim's on South Street), explore Reading Terminal Market, and walk through Old City for American history from Independence Hall to the Liberty Bell.
Safety & Etiquette
Center City, Old City, and Rittenhouse Square are safe and walkable. The South Philadelphia Sports Complex area is heavily policed on event days. Philly fans have a passionate reputation, but visiting soccer fans will find a welcoming atmosphere — save the "trash talk" energy for division rivals, not international guests. Common sense applies on the Broad Street Line at night — stick to populated cars. The biggest risk is probably overindulging at the Xfinity Live! complex before the match and the long walk to your seat in the heat.
