HOW TO RUN A WORLD CUP POOL

Everything you need to set up and run an amazing World Cup 2026 pool for friends, family, or coworkers — from choosing a format to keeping everyone engaged through the Final.

WHY RUN A WORLD CUP POOL?

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the biggest sporting event on the planet — 48 teams, 104 matches, 39 days of non-stop soccer across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. A prediction pool turns every match into an event worth watching, even if your country isn't playing.

Running a pool is the ultimate way to bring your friend group, office, or family together around the World Cup. Whether it's a friendly competition for bragging rights or a cash-prize pool, being the commissioner means you're the one making it happen. And with Golazo, the setup takes less than 5 minutes.

The expanded 48-team format means more matches, more upsets, and more reasons to check the standings every day. If you've ever run a March Madness bracket or NFL survivor pool, a World Cup pool is the same energy — but with the whole world participating.

Step 1: Choose Your Format

Survivor Pool

Each round, every player picks one team to win. If their team loses or draws, they're eliminated. Last one standing wins.

High drama — one wrong pick and you're out
Weekly engagement with deadlines each round
Best for groups who love tension and stakes

Step 2: Set Up Your Pool on Golazo

Creating a pool on Golazo takes less than 2 minutes. Here's what to do:

1

Sign up for free

Create your Golazo account at golazo.us. Just email and a display name — no credit card.

2

Click "Create Pool"

From your dashboard, hit Create Pool and choose Survivor or Bracket (or create one of each).

3

Name your pool

Give it a fun name — "Office World Cup Pool 2026", "Family Survivor Challenge", etc.

4

Set your options

Configure optional entry fee, payment methods, and pool visibility (public or invite-only).

5

Share the invite code

Copy your pool's unique invite code or link and share it with your group.

Step 3: Entry Fees & Payments

Entry fees are completely optional — many pools play for bragging rights only. But if you want to add stakes, here's how it works:

Setting an Entry Fee

When creating your pool (or in Pool Settings later), enter the fee amount and list your payment methods — Venmo handle, Zelle email, PayPal link, or "cash at the office." Members will see these when they join.

Payment Tracking

Use Golazo's built-in Payment Tracker to mark members as paid or unpaid. Send email reminders to unpaid members with one click. Note: Golazo does NOT collect or process entry fees — that's between you and your members.

Golazo Hosting Fees

Up to 5 membersFree
Above 5 members$2 per additional member

Hosting fees are paid by the commissioner, not individual members.

Step 4: Invite Your Members

Once your pool is created, share the invite code or link. Here are some tips for getting people to join:

Group chat blast

Drop the invite link in your friend/family/work group chat with a quick pitch: "World Cup starts June 11 — join our prediction pool!"

Email invite

For office pools, send a quick email with the pool name, format, entry fee (if any), and the join link.

Set a join deadline

Give people a soft deadline to join — at least a few days before the tournament starts. This creates urgency.

Target the right size

Survivor pools are most fun with 10-30+ players. Bracket pools work great at any size.

Step 5: Keep Your Pool Engaged

The best pools have active commissioners who keep the energy going throughout the tournament. Here are proven engagement tactics:

Send deadline reminders

A quick "Picks due tonight!" message in your group chat saves people from auto-elimination.

Celebrate upsets and eliminations

When a big upset happens and half the pool gets knocked out, post about it. That's what makes survivor pools electric.

Share leaderboard updates

After each round, share the leaderboard in your group chat. Everyone loves seeing where they stand.

Plan watch parties

With matches in US/Mexico/Canada time zones, organizing group viewing sessions is easy and adds to the communal experience.

Talk trash (respectfully)

Competitive banter is half the fun. Encourage friendly rivalry and call out bold picks.
