Three countries.
Sixteen cities.
One tournament that crosses four time zones and clears 4,000 miles end-to-end.
The 2026 World Cup is the first tri-nation host. The first to use 16 venues. The biggest logistical operation in tournament history.
If you're traveling to a match — or just trying to figure out which city you're watching — here's the complete venue guide.
🌎 The split. 78 of 104 matches in the USA (11 cities). 13 in Mexico (3 cities). 13 in Canada (2 cities). The final, both semis, and the third-place playoff are all in the US.
🇺🇸 The 11 US Host Cities
The bulk of the tournament. Every knockout round from the QF onward is on American soil.
| City | Stadium | Capacity | Notable |
|---|---|---|---|
| 🌃 New York / New Jersey | MetLife Stadium | 82,500 | Hosts the Final |
| 🌵 Dallas | AT&T Stadium | 80,000 | Hosts a semi-final |
| 🌳 Atlanta | Mercedes-Benz Stadium | 71,000 | Hosts a semi-final |
| 🌊 Miami | Hard Rock Stadium | 65,000 | QF venue |
| ☀️ Los Angeles | SoFi Stadium | 70,000 | QF venue |
| 🏔️ San Francisco Bay Area | Levi's Stadium | 68,500 | R16 |
| 🌽 Kansas City | Arrowhead Stadium | 76,400 | Loud — historically a USMNT fortress |
| 🌧️ Seattle | Lumen Field | 69,000 | Sounders' home |
| 🦅 Philadelphia | Lincoln Financial Field | 69,000 | Group + R32 |
| 🌭 Boston | Gillette Stadium | 64,600 | Group + R32 |
| 🛢️ Houston | NRG Stadium | 72,000 | Group + R32 |
Some quick notes if you're picking a US match to attend:
- MetLife for the final. Tickets will be impossible. The atmosphere will be unreal.
- Arrowhead is the loudest stadium on the list. NFL fans turned soccer fans = a wall of noise.
- SoFi and AT&T are the two newest, most luxurious venues — climate-controlled, premium-everything.
- Mercedes-Benz has the retractable roof that opens like a camera shutter. It's a must-see in person.
🇲🇽 The 3 Mexican Host Cities
The historic ones. Mexico is the only nation hosting its third men's World Cup (1970, 1986, 2026).
| City | Stadium | Capacity | Notable |
|---|---|---|---|
| 🏛️ Mexico City | Estadio Azteca | 87,000 | Hosts opener — Mexico's first match |
| 🏔️ Guadalajara | Estadio Akron | 49,000 | Group + R32 |
| 🌵 Monterrey | Estadio BBVA | 53,500 | Group + R32 |
🏛️ Estadio Azteca is the only venue to host three World Cups — 1970 (Pelé's last World Cup), 1986 (Maradona's "Hand of God"), and now 2026 (the opener).
This is sacred ground for the sport. If you can swing a ticket to any match in Mexico City, take it.
Altitude warning. Mexico City sits at 7,300 feet. European and South American teams will struggle. Watch for late-game collapses in matches there.
🇨🇦 The 2 Canadian Host Cities
Canada's first time hosting the men's World Cup.
| City | Stadium | Capacity | Notable |
|---|---|---|---|
| 🍁 Toronto | BMO Field | 45,000 (expanded) | Hosts Canada's first match |
| 🌲 Vancouver | BC Place | 54,500 | Group + R32 |
Smaller venues than the US — but BC Place and BMO Field both have genuine atmosphere thanks to MLS fanbases that have been packing them for over a decade.
💡 If you're West Coast, Vancouver is the most accessible international match — short flight, no time-zone hit, no jet lag.
🌎 The Travel Math
The tournament spans an enormous geographic footprint. A team could realistically play in:
- Mexico City (group stage)
- Atlanta (R32)
- Dallas (R16)
- Los Angeles (QF)
- Atlanta (semi)
- New York (final)
That's 5,500+ flight miles in 38 days. The US, with its 11 venues, will absorb most of the travel — but the cross-border legs will crush the teams unlucky enough to draw them.
🎟️ Picking a City to Watch
Quick recommendations by traveler type:
| You are… | Best US city | Best non-US city |
|---|---|---|
| 🍻 Casual fan, want a fun trip | Miami or Atlanta | Toronto |
| 🏟️ Atmosphere chaser | Kansas City or Seattle | Mexico City |
| 🥂 Premium experience | Los Angeles or Dallas | Vancouver |
| 🇺🇸 USMNT supporter | Kansas City — they'll be loud | — |
| 🌶️ Bucket list | New York (final) | Mexico City (Azteca) |
📅 Match Distribution
| Phase | USA | Mexico | Canada |
|---|---|---|---|
| Group stage | 56 | 9 | 7 |
| Round of 32 | 12 | 2 | 2 |
| Round of 16 | 6 | 1 | 1 |
| Quarter-finals | 4 | 0 | 0 |
| Semi-finals | 2 | 0 | 0 |
| Third / Final | 2 | 0 | 0 |
| Total | 78 | 13 | 13 |
The pattern: early-round matches are spread across all three countries; everything from the QF onward is in the US. That's the deal Canada and Mexico signed when they joined the bid.
⚡ TL;DR
- 16 cities, 3 countries, 104 matches
- USA hosts 78 matches including the final and both semis at MetLife / Atlanta / Dallas
- Mexico hosts 13 matches, including the opener at Estadio Azteca
- Canada hosts 13 matches in Toronto and Vancouver
- Watch the altitude in Mexico City and the time zones for travel-heavy teams
